SUNDAY DECEMBER 14 - Baptism

The texts we will be using for the Third Sunday in Advent are:
Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
Psalm 126 (UMH 847)
I Thessalonians 5:16-24
John 1:6-8, 19-28

There are many places you can find online versions of the Bible. I usually go through www.textweek.com.

Because the focus this week is on baptism, I wonder what baptism means to those of you reading the blog? Would you be willing to share some of that?

I liked the illustration Nancy used this morning about people coming to Broadway almost every day asking for help in re-establishing their legal identity--after losing, perhaps, their birth certificate, SS card or driver's license.

Baptism is in a sense about identifying ourselves, about recognizing and responding to God's love for us. It's something that can't be lost.

Ro,
That is so true - it can't be lost, and God doesn't need the paperwork to prove you exist! Descart said I think therefore I am - I think as a person of faith it is something more like,
I am loved and known by the Holy, therefore I am.
